Who we are

CORE is a nonprofit organization built by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs—with a vision of an economy powered by the people who live, work, create, and dream right here in our community. We believe the vibrant culture, creativity, and talent in Douglas County should be the driving force behind our local economy—and that the support systems to help businesses grow should reflect the people who make this place what it is.

CORE exists to remove the systemic barriers and bureaucratic red tape that have historically made entrepreneurship inaccessible for many—especially those from marginalized communities. Whether you’re a tech founder, an artist, a chef, a childcare provider, an herbalist or you run a private practice, you should have access to the tools, networks, and funding opportunities you need to thrive.

That’s why our work is rooted in equity, community, and approachability. We’re here to walk alongside you—offering real-world support, practical resources, and authentic connection through every stage of your business journey. Our programming includes everything from peer-led roundtables and one-on-one mentorship to direct funding opportunities and a growing pipeline for local tech startups.

We’re not just talking about economic development. We’re actively building an entrepreneurial ecosystem that’s community-centered, culturally responsive, and designed to support all kinds of business owners—not just the ones who already know how to navigate the system. Because we believe the future of Douglas County should be shaped by the people already building it.

CORE is currently co-led by Kyle Johnson and Moniqué Mercurio—an ecosystem strategist and a creative community builder with deep roots in local entrepreneurship. We’re the point people in our growing ecosystem, but our organization is driven by and responsive to the needs of the community.
